Update On the Toronto Local Executive Elections

Dear Sisters, Brothers and Comrades 

 

The Local Executive is aware of the March 12, 2023 bulletin by President Qaiser Maroof. The bulletin speaks to President Maroof overturning and redoing both rounds of the 2023 Toronto Local elections.  Late on March 12, 2023 the Toronto Local Executive held an emergency executive meeting to discuss this issue. President Qaiser Maroof was given the opportunity to attend the executive meeting and did not. As such the following motions were unanimously passed by the Toronto Local Executive.

2023 Toronto Local Executive Elections Committee Report to the Membership February 23, 2023

First Round Elections commenced on February 13, 2023 and concluded on February 20 in compliance of Article 8 of Toronto Local By-Laws (ver. June 15, 2021).

Ballot count took place shortly after 9:00 a.m. on February 22, 2023 and was completed at approximately 5:00 p.m. on February 23, 2023.  In addition to the committee and independent third-party (Drew North Consulting), the counting of the ballots was witnessed by approximately twenty (20) scrutineers.

The local will be consulting this week on the Restructures and Staffing.  We will also be putting on a “Virtual” information meeting regarding the staffing process and selection of assignments for both West and South Transportation members.

On Saturday January 7, 2023, the Toronto local held elections to elect the remaining delegates and alternates to attend the upcoming National Convention. The results are as follows:

-You must register by sending email to [email protected] in advance. Registration deadline is before NOON Jan16 /2023 (Your registration must contain your Full Name and ID#)

After registering, you will receive all the documentations you need for this meeting and the link to join the meeting before the GMM. The Agenda for the GMM will be post at Union Boards as per the Local By-Laws.
