UNION DUES WAIVER

Sisters/Brothers:

The National Constitution allows dues waivers when the member is off work and the requested dues waiver is approved as per the National Constitution.  In order to be eligible, you must be a member in good standing.  Membership is a condition of employment (4.07 of the Collective Agreement).  For RAND members, please note that upon becoming a member, the union dues waiver is not retroactive.

There are four instances when the National Office will not waive your dues:

  • If the member’s status is RAND (never signed an application for membership)
  • If the member is on WSIB and receiving pay through Canada Post
  • If the member is on approved STD (short term disability)
  • The first 17 weeks of Maternity Leave.

INFORMATION REQUIRED WHEN YOU SUBMIT YOUR DUES WAIVER REQUEST:

  1. Name
  2. Address
  3. Phone Number
  4. Date your Leave starts
  5. Date your Leave ends (if known)
  6. Reason for Leave
  7. D.#

It is the responsibility of the member to send her/his request to waive her/his union dues to the Secretary-Treasurer.  If you do not waive your dues, and you return to work, you will be double-deducted union dues to recover the dues arrears.

**The Toronto Local does not have a dues assessment, therefore, if you are being deducted more than $90.61, please see your Shop Steward or feel free to contact me.**

In Solidarity,

Abdi Hagi Yusuf,

Secretary-Treasurer,

CUPW Toronto Local.

VOTE YES FOR A CLEAR STRIKE MANDATE

Sisters, Brothers, Cousins:

The Corporation is not negotiating in good faith with the National CUPW Negotiators.  In simple terms they have not agreed to any clauses in the Collective Agreement. We cannot sit back and avoid a strike if Canada Post does not continue to negotiate, not this time.  Every member has to come out to vote to protect all of our rights.
