WHY ARE WE HAVING A STRIKE MANDATE VOTE?

Sisters, Brothers and Siblings,

Both our collective agreements, Urban and R.S.M.C.’s have expired.  In preparations for negotiations we collected demands from the membership, prioritized them, collected data and prepared presentations.   Now we are in the process of negotiating a new contract.

Canada Post has set a very aggressive tone and made it clear that they expect us to accept concessions that would have a devastating effect on our lives, our families and communities.  In order for bargaining to be successful, we need to pressure Canada Post to bargain in good faith and respect the work done by Postal Workers.  For negotiations, updates, please visit our National Website: CUPW.ca and please sign up for CUPW eDigest.

WHAT KIND OF STRIKE MANDATE VOTE DO WE NEED?

We need a strike mandate vote that has a high turnout (the number of members who vote) and a strong strike mandate (the proportion who vote yes).  If we get both a high turnout and a strong strike mandate, the employer will know that we are serious about our contract demands and that we refuse any rollbacks.

A high turnout is important because it shows that a wide cross-section of the membership is engaged and mobilized about the bargaining process.  A STRONG “YES” VOTE IS ALSO IMPORTANT BECAUSE THE UNION IS STRONGEST WHEN IT IS UNITED. Canada Post will be much more fearful of a Labour disruption, and more likely to negotiate seriously with a strong ‘YES” vote.

DOES A “YES” VOTE MEAN THAT WE ARE GOING ON STRIKE?

A strong strike mandate vote does not necessarily mean we will strike, but it does indicate that we are ready to do so if necessary.

Vote “YES” to give our Negotiation Team the ability to negotiate for the gains we deserve and to protect the work we do.

“IN UNITY – THERE IS STRENGTH”

April 28 Day of Mourning

Dear Postal Workers,

On April 28th, we observe the National Day of Mourning to honour those who have lost their lives or suffered in the workplace. This day also serves as a call to action for stricter safety standards. Let’s stand in solidarity with our fellow Postal Workers, advocating for the vital changes our workplaces need and resisting intimidation from management.
