CANADA POST VACCINE MANDATE

Sisters and Brothers:

This is a very challenging time for all of us, and we all need to be respectful and united.  The work floor should not be divided by vaxxed and anti vaxxed, and we should not be pointing fingers at each other.  Be Respectful you have worked side by side for so many years, we are work friends.

Last Friday Canada Post announced their vaccine mandate to all our members.  Canada Post echoed the Federal Governments directive of mirror image.  The Toronto Local is against this mandate and strongly believes that there must be an alternative so that our members can continue to work.

The members have to understand that the Toronto Local does not have any input, nor participated in any kind of National discussions concerning this mandate.  We are however prepared to file individual grievances on your behalf for those that are sent home on Administrative LWOP.  The members also have to understand that it is entirely up to the National Office to refer these grievances to arbitration. If they are not referred they will not be put forward.

This Local has fought tirelessly for our members, defying the Government many times which resulted in our previous Local President, 4th Vice President and 5th Vice President going to jail in the 90’s.  Since then times have changed and the government changed legislation to have a monetary penalty to rank and file members individually who defy.

Toronto Local met with the employer on November 2nd and asked many questions which the Corporation gave lip service at this point, nothing changed.

Canada Post and the Federal Government have no respect for Postal Workers we know that by being legislated back to work every strike, we know that when only during a pandemic we are called essential workers and know that because they are unwilling to budge in this mandate to protect all workers.

Toronto Local strongly stands to defend workers rights under our Collective Agreement. An injury to one is an injury to all!

In Solidarity

Honouring Black History Month

February is Black History Month, a time to celebrate and recognize the incredible contributions of Black Canadians throughout history and today. Let's take this opportunity to reflect on the contributions and to honour our Toronto Local's First Black President Megan Whitfield who left us too early in 2020. Sister Megan shaped our collective history. She remains "Eternal in our Memories". In May, please visit our National CUPW website regarding information about: The Fifth Annual Megan Whitfield Bursary-Inspiring a New Generation of Activist.

LIARS

Sisters, Brothers, Cousins

CPC management has been moving workers from WPDH to Gateway proper.  They claim that the Union was made aware.  THIS IS A LIE  The Union has NOT received any written notice or proposals including the Team Leader Talk Track which was distributed to our members without our knowledge or consent!  At no time has the Union agreed to this movement between WPDH Post Office and Gateway Post Office.
