SECRETARY-TREASURER’S REPORT

Sisters and Brothers,

Thank you for putting your trust in me to carry out the responsibilities to be your Secretary-Treasurer. We will continue to ensure that your hard-earned financial sacrifices are used effectively and in accordance with our Constitution and By-Laws.

We are in unique and challenging times because of Covid-19. It has forever changed how we manage our day-to-day work, health and our understanding of normality. Despite these turbulent times, our finances have remained solid, with our cash balances and investments continuing to flourish and grow.

We were able to strike a balance between complying with provincial COVID-19 protocols while maintaining full and effective representation for our membership. I want to thank all Officers, Shop Stewards and activist for their hard work. We want to thank Brothers Mark, Suran and Jordan for helping the Local to host productive Virtual General membership meeting while we saved the membership funds for not hiring third party.

Budget

The Toronto Local members passed a Budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2021- June 30, 2022. This was by far the most progressive Budget the Local ever adapted. We allocated funds for all departments especially education and training for the Shop Stewards and the members. The Toronto Local started the trainings. There will be more Educationals and any Shop Steward that are elected or appointed who missed the previous ones will have the opportunity in the future to participate.  Thanks to Brother Mark and Sisters Jane, Donna and Stacey for putting together a great Virtual training.

Every month the Local presented to you the monthly Bills & Accounts.

Auditor

Kanish and Partners looked at the financial books and presented their audited report to the General Membership meeting. The Local is up to date.

BUILDING:

The building committee is working to make our building a green-energy building. They will follow up with more information in this initiative.

I thank you all for giving me this chance to serve you as Secretary-Treasurer. In addition, I take this opportunity to wish you and your families a safe summer.

In Solidarity,

Abdi Hagi Yusuf,

WE HAVE TO STAND UP AND FIGHT MANAGEMENT’S DEMANDS FOR GROUP 2 THEY ARE SIMPLY RIDICULOUS

Sisters, Brothers, Siblings:

The demands the corporation has put in for Variable Work Week, No Route Ownership, Permanent Flexible Employee’s and major restructuring of letter carrier work are pathetic.

It is time to get ready to stand up in Solidarity and fight! The Toronto Local is strongly opposed to management’s shenanigans and are preparing to battle.  Feet on the street is the only way to win with this employer, the longer the line the shorter the strike.  We need to stop attacking each other and focus on attacking the boss.
