Fire the Board at Canada Post, or Resign Now

“If the race to the bottom [Canada Post is] seeking to impose on its workers, are the directives of the Liberal government, – the Members of Parliament who belong to the Liberal Party must speak out. They must demand that their government orders Canada Post to do the right thing…” Learie Charles -President Scarborough Local CUPW, December 3, 2024 Bulletin titled

“MPs MUST STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!!”

The Honourable Minister of Public Services, Jean-Yves Duclos, must take decisive action regarding the Board of Directors of Canada Post, or he must be replaced. As a Crown Corporation, the Government of Canada is the sole shareholder, so it is imperative that Canada Post operates responsibly. The Minister has the authority to appoint the members of this board, and it is clear that Doug Ettinger, the CEO and President of Canada Post and his current board have failed in their duties.

The incompetence of Canada Post’s Board of Directors is unacceptable, particularly in light of their claim of billions in losses and the recent strike. Their failure to promptly negotiate a fair collective agreement has disrupted a postal service important to Canadians.

Over the past few weeks, Canadians have witnessed the board's blatant disregard for the public and postal workers dedicated to providing cherished services. As grocery prices rise and housing costs continue to climb, we must protect the interests of current and future postal workers. They deserve stable, decent-paying jobs.

It is time for Canada Post to be held accountable for its mismanagement and impact on postal workers and the community. Postal workers are currently earning less than they did three years ago when adjusted for inflation. We need to return to the standards we enjoyed just a few years ago. The long term goal must be a strong sustainable public postal system that works for both workers, the public, and Canada Post serving Canadians in all communities.

April 28 Day of Mourning

Dear Postal Workers,

On April 28th, we observe the National Day of Mourning to honour those who have lost their lives or suffered in the workplace. This day also serves as a call to action for stricter safety standards. Let’s stand in solidarity with our fellow Postal Workers, advocating for the vital changes our workplaces need and resisting intimidation from management.
