WINNIPEG
LETTER CARRIERS WALK OFF JOB
TORONTO
MEMBERSHIP SUPPORT THEM
Dear Sisters and Brothers:
Toronto Local sends a strong
SOLIDARITY message to the workers at the Winnipeg depots for
taking a stand against the boss concerning the sequenced mail
delivery process.
The issue was that the members
at the new South West Depot with the new delivery model were
sorting sequenced mail into their cases when they were ordered
to stop by the boss. They refused to comply and one letter
carrier was suspended. Following the suspension, the rest of the
members walked out and have now gone home. This was in the first
wave. In a show of solidarity, the second wave also walked off
the job and are now gone home.
The Trancona letter carriers
sorted all of their sequenced mail into their cases, and then
members in the downtown depot walked out in support of the South
West carriers, but since returned to work. There has been no
report of any discipline.
I guess we could say they waved
goodbye to management and the new Modern Post model for
delivery.
Management in Toronto is
telling the members that the letter carriers in Winnipeg are
extremely happy with the new system. At consultation this
morning I was happy to inform the boss that Winnipeg walked off
the job because of many issues with the Modern Post and don’t
seem to be so happy with the new system for letter carrier
delivery.
Winnipeg is the first depots to
be effected by the Modern Post, first in, first out. Who will be
next? Stay tuned and watch your bulletin boards for updates.
Congratulations to our Sisters
and Brothers for taking a stand and fighting for all of our
rights.
In Solidarity,
Jane
